Textile artist Janis Saunders is Penn Cove Gallery's Artist of the Month for December. Janis has been weaving for over 30 years using a computer-assisted loom (shown below) which allows her to explore simple to complex patterns. Weaving with wool, alpaca, linen, silk and rayon, her current patterned scarves and shawls are reversible creating both a dark and light side. Each art piece is unique, sometimes starting with the yarn on hand or the weave structure in mind. Janis’ braided bracelets (shown at left) are made using a Japanese technique which she describes as a meditative exercise and an opportunity to create small studies in color and texture based on the world around her. |
Janis will be at Penn Cove gallery on December 19 and 27, 10:00-5:00 and she will be demonstrating methods of her woven art.
