Penn Cove Gallery's Patty Picco considers herself a “Layerist”.  Her work starts with the subtle textures of monotype or her own photographs.  From there, she may combine paint with her own hand-painted papers, paying special attention to the mood that she's trying to convey in the piece.  She continues the layering process with the addition of encaustic painting, using a mixture of beeswax, damar resin for hardening  and pure pigment for color.  Patty says, "I enjoy combining mediums to create works that are rich in color, texture and luminosity."

She has just released a beautiful new "Northwest Moods" series.  All new pieces in the series are available now at Penn Cove Gallery as well as Saturday and Sunday at the Whidbey Expressions art show in Coupeville.
