From Patty Picco's "Northwest Moods" series. (source: the artist). Penn Cove Gallery's Patty Picco considers herself a “Layerist”. Her work starts with the subtle textures of monotype or her own photographs. From there, she may combine paint with her own hand-painted papers, paying special attention to the mood that she's trying to convey in the piece. She continues the layering process with the addition of encaustic painting, using a mixture of beeswax, damar resin for hardening and pure pigment for color. Patty says, "I enjoy combining mediums to create works that are rich in color, texture and luminosity."
