Janis Collins - colored pencil
I believe an artist should paint and draw what you love, be passionate, be creative, and have fun.  The subjects I choose to draw are mostly things I love from the natural world.  Whidbey Island is the perfect place for inspiration with the water views, beaches, forests, birds, shells, plants and wildlife all around us.  It is the drawing process that I really enjoy.  Colored pencil is my current medium of choice.  My process is to sketch a preliminary drawing deciding on lighting, form, color, and composition.  Sometimes it takes four or five drawings to get the results I like, but the process is worth it.
